Even after 6 years of doing this I strongly agree with the vast majority of points you made. You certainly won't be doing much ML (if any) and results matter much more than the tools you use.
I also tend to lean towards not considering data scientists as actual scientists. However, couldn't conducting A/B testing (which many data scientists do) be considered doing science since it follows the scientific method? 🤔
AB testing is a scientific method, true, but for me at least it's not enough to call someone a scientist. Digital marketers also run AB tests, but still, I wouldn't call them scientists. 🙂
